Action Figures

A lifelong hobby. I can’t stop. Sizes range from hand-held to full-human. Materials range from porcelain, to clay, to plaster. I usually whip out a few of these to relieve stress. I’d love to make a full set of action figures for production.

Speleo Hallway Lighting

Speleo is a home hallway lighting system. The paper-thin silicone tubes in Speleo reference stalactites in an area of the home where lighting is often ignored.

Flappers

Great noise, great color. What more could you ask for? I made these toys as part of an assignment on movement. I’d like to do a proper photo shoot and make a new movie at some point.

Steamé

The Steamé vegetable steamer allows a user to effectively steam vegetables at an appropriate distance from water, remove the vegetables from the hot pot with a firm grip and without burning their hand, and set them to the side to drain or serve. Steamé has multiple features that are improvements on existing steamers. Each of Steamé

Bedforms and Cross-Bedding in Animation

I spent two years working as a Geologist at the USGS in Santa Cruz, CA.  Bedforms and Cross-Bedding in Animation by David M. Rubin and myself is a college-level textbook on sediment transport processes.  It’s available for purchase here or you can play with the online, interactive exploration tool via the USGS Bedform Sedimentology Site. Bedrock Channel Evolution: Field Constraints and Physical Modeling

For my MS thesis in Earth Science I studied the evolution of bedrock channels and the fluid mechanics of bedrock erosion by abrasion in the slot canyons of the southwest United States. Abrasion-dominated fluvial erosion generates slot canyons with intricately undulating wall morphology. Flows in slot canyons are unusual in that the walls comprise a Bedrock Channel Evolution: Field Constraints and Physical Modeling

Subglacial environment inferred from bedrock-coating siltskins

The landscape revealed by retreating glaciers provides evidence, much of it ephemeral, for subglacial processes that are difficult to observe directly. Glaciers that thin over rough bedrock surfaces continue to slide by regelation as adjacent subsurface cavity systems develop and enlarge. Subglacial deposits, including the cemented coatings we describe here, provide insight into subglacial conditions.
